  • retirement benefits fully available when you leave the workforce after reaching your preservation age
  • invalidity benefits if forced to leave for medical reasons
  • benefits to your dependants if you die
  • a range of voluntary ancillary benefits.

What can I receive in retirement?

Your potential benefit choices may vary depending on your age when you retire from the Australian Defence Force (ADF) and when you retire permanently from work:

I retire from ADF between age 55 and preservation age

Your employer benefit less surcharge debt can be:

Your member benefit accrued to 30 June 1999 can be:

And your member benefit accrued from 1 July 1999 can be:

I retire from ADF at or age 60 or when I reach my preservation age at which time I also permanently retire from the workforce

Your employer benefit less surcharge debt can be:

  • taken entirely as an indexed pension
  • taken entirely as a lump sum
  • taken as a part pension and part lump sum providing you convert at least 50% of your employer benefit into a pension
  • preserved in MilitarySuper up until you turn age 65.

Your member benefit can be:

  • paid to you as a lump sum
  • preserved in MilitarySuper up until you turn  age 65, or
  • paid to a rollover fund.

I retire from ADF at or after preservation age but before age 60 and intend to work again
